Military Strength - Level of Armaments

The last element I will comment on is that of national service. I will try not to be biased because I have done some army service and my wife's family consists of generations of military. I work for a Swiss bank and it is noticeable that every man in Switzerland spends part of the year up until middle age in part-time national service. Every one has a weapon at home with live rounds (although breaking the seal of the ammunition is punishable with a term in jail). I am sure you have already guessed what I am going to say but the Swiss have the lowest gun crime rate in the world. It would be all too easy to highlight their Germanic discipline but when you have used weapons you treat them with respect and the same goes for military service - you learn how to give and receive respect when it is earned. Many young males from single parent families are desperate for leadership from a strong role model but the feminisation of society has gone out of balance such that they act aggressively to counteract the trend. It is no wonder that gang leaders command such loyalty. Hugo Bouleau

I don't know enough about this to comment but my view would be to head towards the US system of right to bear arms for responsible citizens. Ben Davies
