Appropriate Technology for New Zealand
There are some very important questions to be answered about the appropriate level of technology to be maintained. Some might argue that, since New Zealand has had electricity for no more than fifty years in some cases, then it might be most appropriate to return to a pre-electricity technology. There is some logic in this view, especially as we may eventually be forced back by circumstances into a lifestyle without electricity; so why not get prepared and used to it now?
Fortress New Zealand takes the view that to deny ourselves the advantages and benefits of electricity, before we absolutely have to, would be uncomfortable, inconvenient and possibly imprudent. We don’t want to place ourselves in the position where we have a less sophisticated level of technology than our competitors and/or our enemies. Why not continue to enjoy the benefits of high technology for as long as we can, while always being prepared for the possibility of having to retreat to an earlier, simpler level. Part of our mission will be to preserve those aspects of modern technology which we consider to be beneficial and valuable.
